This page spans three sub-sectors: Biotech / MedTech, Life Sciences, and Pharmaceutical. These three share hiring patterns, recruiter ecosystems, executive candidate profiles, and job board vocabulary. Presenting them on separate pages would duplicate content and fragment a unified market segment.
The line between "Life Sciences" and "Biotech" — or between "Biotech" and "Pharmaceutical" — is legitimately fuzzy in real job postings. A late-stage clinical-stage company might call itself Biotech on one job board and Life Sciences on another. The classifier resolves this internally and we intentionally show all three together.
With 1,008 active roles at last snapshot (722 Biotech/MedTech, 398 Pharmaceutical, 253 Life Sciences), this industry has concentrated executive volume at the CXO and VP tiers — particularly for science-domain C-suite roles like CSO, CMO, and Chief Research Officer that rarely appear in other sectors.

How classification gets to this category
Biotech and life sciences classification uses domain-specific vocabulary that is rare outside this industry sector:
- Company and JD vocabulary. FDA and EMA regulatory references, clinical stage terminology (Phase I/II/III), IND filings, therapeutic area language (oncology, immunology, rare disease), and pipeline-stage descriptions all signal this industry. A company that "develops biologics" or "conducts preclinical studies" is unambiguously Biotech or Pharma.
- Science-domain C-suite overrides. Chief Scientific Officer, Chief Medical Officer (in a pharma/biotech context), and Chief Research Officer are classified as CXO-tier automatically — even when those titles don't appear in other industries' exec-tier lookups. Regulatory Affairs Director qualifies at Director tier when the JD confirms executive scope.
- Exec gate application. The same multi-stage pipeline applies. Individual contributors — Research Scientists, Principal Scientists — are excluded even at high compensation. See the AI Classification page for the full pipeline.
How matching works for your search
Matching on Biotech & Life Sciences surfaces executive roles at companies confirmed in this research-and-therapeutics sector — across all three sub-sectors.
Example: select Biotech & Life Sciences + CTO/Technology role type and your inbox narrows to technology leadership roles (CTO, VP Engineering, Head of Platform) at bio/pharma companies — not every CTO role on the platform, and not every Biotech role regardless of function. Both gates must pass.
The Director-tier in Biotech & Life Sciences is notable for Regulatory Affairs and Translational Medicine roles — highly specialized positions that rarely surface on general executive boards. Selecting Director tier + Biotech captures these alongside broader functional Director roles at therapeutics companies.
