Technology Executive Roles — CTO through Engineering Director
Covers both Technology and Engineering leadership, because the CTO persona spans product-technology and platform-engineering — and job boards mix them freely.

DirectorWhat this category covers
This flagship pulls from both the Technology or Related and Engineering or Related taxonomy entries. Separating them would systematically under-represent the market: a CTO posting at a SaaS company might say "Chief Technology Officer" or "VP of Engineering" or "Head of Platform," depending on the company's vocabulary.
The combined category spans CTO, CIO, CDO, SVP Engineering, VP Engineering, VP Platform, VP Infrastructure, Senior Director of Engineering, and Director of Engineering at the executive tier. Head of Platform and equivalent functional-lead titles also qualify when the JD signals executive scope.
What falls outside this bucket: individual contributor engineers — Principal, Staff, and Distinguished Engineer titles — even at high compensation. These are exec-adjacent but are not leadership roles. Product Management roles (CPO, VP Product) live in a separate taxonomy entry and don't surface in this flagship.

How classification gets to this category
Technology and Engineering classification applies three layers, with tech-specific signal handling at each:
- Title recognition. "CTO," "Chief Technology Officer," "CIO," "CDO," "VP Engineering," "VP Platform," and their "SVP/Sr. Director/Director" variants are recognized directly. The lookup table treats Technology and Engineering as equivalent for exec classification.
- Compensation threshold. $250K+ base is common for exec-tier Technology roles. Below this threshold, ambiguous titles are held for secondary signal review rather than auto-accepted.
- JD signals — org size is decisive. Engineering org of 50+ ICs signals VP-tier; 200+ signals CTO or SVP-tier. Architecture ownership, system-design accountability, and board/CEO reporting line are all strong signals. Roles where the person writes code full-time are flagged as individual contributor regardless of title. See the AI Classification page for the full signal hierarchy.
The Industry Override layer also applies here: at banks and financial firms, "Managing Director of Technology" maps to VP-tier, not CXO — consistent with the banking title convention.
How matching works for your search
Matching on CTO/Technology is conjunctive across every filter you apply.
Example: select CTO/Technology + Healthcare Payers & Providers and your inbox shows technology leadership roles at hospital systems, insurers, and integrated delivery networks — not general Healthcare director roles, and not CTO/VP Eng roles at non-healthcare companies. Both gates must pass.
Stack tier filtering on top to narrow further. Select VP-tier only to focus on VP Engineering and SVP Engineering roles while excluding CTO/CIO (CXO-tier) and Director of Engineering (Director-tier). The three-way intersection — role type × industry × seniority tier — is the sharpest filter combination on the platform.
