VP-Level Executive Roles — senior functional leaders and heads of large business units
The VP tier is the single largest executive tier on the platform — 4,918 active roles at last snapshot — spanning SVPs running major divisions to VP-titled functional heads at every company size.

What this category covers
The VP tier covers SVP, VP, AVP, Managing Director (outside banking), Head of [Function], General Counsel, Deputy C-titles at large enterprises, and Executive Director (operating, non-nonprofit). These are senior functional leaders — not "mid-level" roles.
A VP-tier executive typically leads a team of 50 to 500 people and owns $50M to $500M of P&L or functional budget. But company size matters enormously. A VP Sales at a 50-person startup reports directly to the CEO and owns the entire go-to-market function. A VP Sales at a 5,000-person enterprise may be one of eight VP Sales titles, reporting to an SVP, with a narrower geographic or segment mandate.
The classifier weighs company size, compensation, team headcount, and reporting structure to distinguish a true VP-scope role from a VP-titled individual contributor. Both end up in this tier if they clear the exec gate — but the tier assignment reflects organizational authority, not just the presence of "VP" in the title.

How classification gets to this category
VP-tier classification combines title recognition with three layers of validation for edge cases:
- Title signal recognition. "SVP," "Senior Vice President," "Vice President," "AVP," "Associate Vice President," "Managing Director" (in non-banking industries), and "Head of" followed by a functional area are all recognized as VP-tier title patterns. The lookup table covers hundreds of variants including "Group VP," "Regional VP," and country-specific equivalents.
- Negative-keyword blocking. "Associate VP of Sales Development" — a common VP-titled AE leadership role, not an executive — is blocked by negative-keyword rules that catch known non-exec VP patterns. The filter catches the most common 50+ noise patterns without requiring manual review. See the AI Classification page for the full pipeline.
- Compensation and team-size validation. $225K+ base is the floor for VP-tier auto-classification. Below this threshold, ambiguous VP titles are held for secondary signal review. Team size 30–200 ICs is the typical VP-tier range — below 10 suggests Director scope, above 500 suggests SVP or CXO scope.
How matching works for your search
Matching on VP tier is a seniority-only filter — it applies on top of any role-type or industry filter you've set, not instead of them.
Example: select VP tier + CFO/Finance role type and your inbox narrows to VP Finance roles specifically — not CFO (CXO-tier), not Finance Director (Director-tier), but the VP Finance, SVP Finance, and Head of Finance layer. Tier and role type combine multiplicatively.
If you want breadth — all VP-tier roles across every function in a given industry — select VP tier + Technology industry without a role-type filter. That intersection shows 2,693 VP-tier roles at tech companies across Engineering, Sales, Product, Marketing, Finance, and Operations. Add role-type only when you're ready to narrow to a specific function.
