How classification gets to this category
Finance role classification follows the same multi-stage pipeline as every other role type, with Finance-specific signal paths at three stages:
- Title recognition. "CFO," "Chief Financial Officer," "VP Finance," "Director of FP&A," and "Corporate Controller" are recognized directly. The lookup table covers hundreds of Finance title variants.
- Compensation threshold. $225K+ base is the exec-tier floor for this role type. Roles below this threshold in unambiguous Finance titles are flagged for manual review rather than auto-classified.
- JD signals for ambiguous cases. GPT reads the job description for P&L ownership, team headcount, board reporting, and — critically — the reporting line. A CFO reporting directly to the CEO carries a materially different tier signal than one reporting into a VP of Finance at a larger enterprise. The classifier also has a negative filter: "Finance Analyst," "Financial Advisor" (individual contributor at wirehouses), and "Senior Associate" in PE/VC finance contexts are explicitly blocked from the executive gate.
How matching works for your search
Matching on CFO/Finance is conjunctive. Every dimension you add narrows the result set rather than expanding it.
Example: select CFO/Finance + Biotech & Life Sciences and your inbox shows Finance executive roles at bio/pharma companies only — not every CFO role on the platform, and not every Biotech role regardless of function. You get the intersection.
Tier filtering works on top. If you want only VP-tier and above Finance roles — filtering out Director-tier for now — the seniority-tier setting does that cleanly. Or restrict to CXO-tier only to see pure CFO seats and no VP/Director Finance posts. Each filter layer multiplies precision without requiring you to manually scan for noise.
