DirectorWhat this category covers
The Banking, Financial Services, or Investments taxonomy entry covers commercial banking, investment banking, asset management, wealth management, brokerage, and insurance operations at the executive tier.
This industry has a well-documented title-inflation problem. A "Vice President" at JPMorgan is a 3-to-5-year analyst-track promotion — not an executive role. A "Managing Director" at Goldman Sachs is a senior leader equivalent to a VP at most other companies. The classifier has explicit industry override rules for this: "Partner" and "Managing Director" at banks and financial firms qualify as exec-tier even without a C-prefix, while plain "Vice President" and "Director" do not pass the executive gate.
Note that FinTech is a separate adjacent industry bucket. Companies like Stripe, Brex, or Chime may surface under FinTech rather than Banking depending on job board taxonomy and company classification.

How classification gets to this category
Banking and financial services classification is one of the most override-intensive industries on the platform:
- Industry identification. Company domain, filings, and JD vocabulary identify the firm as a bank, investment bank, asset manager, or insurance carrier. NAICS codes and Bloomberg sector tags feed into company enrichment when available.
- Title override application. Once the industry is confirmed as Banking/Financial Services, the standard title-to-tier mapping is replaced with the finance-industry ruleset. "Managing Director" → VP-equivalent. "Partner" → CXO. Plain "Director" and "Vice President" → below executive level (and filtered out). See the AI Classification page for the full override table.
- JD secondary signals. Balance sheet ownership, trading desk P&L, deal origination scope, and reporting line (to Group CEO vs to a regional head) are all weighted for borderline cases. A "Managing Director" with full-desk P&L and board exposure resolves higher than one with purely advisory client coverage.
How matching works for your search
Matching on Banking, Financial Services & Investments filters to executive roles confirmed in this industry — including the override-resolved titles that would otherwise look like non-executive postings on a generic board.
Example: select Banking + CFO/Finance role type and your inbox narrows to CFO and senior Finance exec roles at banks and investment firms — not every CFO role on the platform, and not every Banking role regardless of function. Both gates must pass.
Because this industry has lower absolute volume than Technology (502 active roles vs 4,741), the signal-to-noise ratio is high by default. Adding a role-type filter primarily narrows by function rather than by noise. Most roles surfacing here have already passed the industry override — meaning a "Managing Director" you see here is a genuine executive role, not an analyst-track VP.
