DirectorWhat this category covers
This flagship combines Sales and Revenue Generating taxonomy entries. Together they cover the full revenue leadership spectrum: CRO, CSO, Chief Commercial Officer, EVP Sales, SVP Sales, VP Sales, VP Revenue Operations, Senior Director of Revenue, and Director of Revenue Operations at the executive tier.
The defining characteristic is that the role's primary KPI is bookings or revenue — whether that's new ARR, deal origination, or net revenue retention. BDR/SDR leadership at the Director tier qualifies when the JD confirms executive scope. Individual account executive rollups without leadership authority do not.
What falls outside this bucket: pure marketing titles (CMO, VP Marketing) — these would live in a dedicated marketing flagship. Growth titles with ambiguous scope are reviewed manually and assigned to either Revenue Generating or Marketing based on the primary KPI described in the JD.

How classification gets to this category
Revenue role classification applies Finance-comparable signal logic, adapted for quota-bearing structures:
- Title recognition. "CRO," "Chief Revenue Officer," "CSO," "CCO," "VP Sales," "VP Revenue," and Director-tier revenue titles are all recognized. The lookup table covers both "Sales" and "Revenue Generating" vocabulary.
- Compensation structure signal. Revenue roles have heavy variable compensation. A $300K OTE with $150K base is a strong CRO-tier signal. $225K+ base targets VP Sales. The classifier reads OTE vs base ratios as a distinct signal type — not just absolute base salary. See the AI Classification page for the full signal hierarchy.
- JD signals — quota ownership is decisive. Does the person own the number, or support someone who does? Quota ownership, team headcount (50+ sellers implies VP-tier, 200+ implies CRO-tier), and whether the role reports to the CEO or to another VP Sales are all weighed. Roles that are internally "Sales Ops" without revenue ownership are flagged separately.
How matching works for your search
Matching on CRO/Revenue is conjunctive across every filter you add.
Example: select CRO/Revenue + Banking, Financial Services & Investments and your inbox shows revenue leadership roles at banks, fintechs, and investment firms — not general Banking executive roles, and not CRO roles at tech companies. Both gates must pass.
Tier filtering narrows further. Select VP-tier only to see VP Sales and SVP Sales roles while excluding CRO/CSO (CXO-tier) and Director-level revenue operations. The seniority filter combines multiplicatively with role type and industry — each added dimension reduces noise without requiring manual scan.
