How classification gets to this category
Insurance industry classification follows the same multi-stage pipeline as every other industry, with insurance-specific signals at the company-tagging stage:
- Company industry tagging. The company is identified via NAICS codes (524 for insurance carriers, 5242 for brokers and agencies), state-DOI licensure status, and a curated allowlist of carriers, reinsurers, MGAs, and large brokerages.
- Sub-sector tagging. The classifier separates P&C, life, health, reinsurance, and broker/MGA sub-sectors — surfaced as filter facets in the inbox UI. A "VP Underwriting" at a P&C carrier has different scope than the same title at a health insurer; sub-sector context is preserved through to the candidate.
- InsurTech cross-tagging. A digital-native carrier like Lemonade is tagged Insurance AND FinTech (and surfaces in both filter sets). A pure traditional insurer is tagged Insurance only. The classifier explicitly excludes from Insurance: pure benefits-administration platforms (these are Technology or HR-tech), warranty-and-extended-service-plan businesses, and title insurance classified under Real Estate.

Matching on Insurance is conjunctive. Every dimension you add narrows the result set rather than expanding it.
Example: select Insurance + Risk & Compliance and your inbox shows CRO, CCO, and Director Compliance seats at carriers and reinsurers only — not every Insurance role regardless of function, and not every Risk role across the platform. You get the intersection. The CFO + Insurance pair is also high-signal for candidates targeting carrier finance roles.
Tier filtering works on top. If you want only VP-tier and above Insurance roles — filtering out Director-tier for now — the seniority-tier setting does that cleanly. Or restrict to Director-tier for the actuarial, underwriting, and compliance feeder layer. Each filter layer multiplies precision without requiring you to manually scan for noise.
