The Consulting, Business & Professional Services industry covers the full advisory and professional-services market: strategy houses (MBB, Bain, BCG, McKinsey), Big Four advisory (Deloitte, PwC, EY, KPMG), boutique strategy and operations firms, technology consultancies, and large professional-services holding companies.
Senior leadership at consulting firms uses different title conventions than corporate roles. Partner and Managing Director are the dominant exec titles; "VP" is rarer. The classifier recognizes Partner-tier and MD-tier as exec seats — Partner equity status is treated as the strongest tier signal, regardless of base comp.
Functions present include strategy practice leaders, M&A advisory heads, transformation practice leads, technology consulting heads, and corporate-finance practice MDs. By volume this is one of the largest industries on the platform — only Technology and Healthcare track higher.

How classification gets to this category
Consulting industry classification follows the same multi-stage pipeline as every other industry, with consulting-specific signals at the company-tagging stage:
- Company industry tagging. The company is recognized as a strategy, management, or professional-services firm via SIC/NAICS codes, company description heuristics, and a curated allowlist of MBB, Big Four, and boutique-strategy firms.
- Title-to-tier mapping uses consulting conventions. Partner is treated as CXO-equivalent. Senior MD is CXO or VP-tier depending on practice scope. MD without "Senior" is VP-tier. Senior Director Engagement is Sr Director tier. The mapping is industry-aware so a "Partner" doesn't get misclassified by the corporate-tier ruleset.
- JD signals for ambiguous cases. GPT reads the job description for client P&L scope, partnership track vs. salaried, and practice headcount. A Partner with a regional practice P&L carries a different tier signal than a Salaried Director at a boutique. See the AI Classification page for the full signal hierarchy.
The classifier also has a negative filter: "Senior Consultant," "Engagement Manager," "Senior Manager" (when not Partner-track), "Principal" at sub-Director level, and "Associate" titles are explicitly blocked from the executive gate.
How matching works for your search
Matching on Consulting & Professional Services is conjunctive. Every dimension you add narrows the result set rather than expanding it.
Example: select Consulting + CFO/Finance and your inbox shows Finance-practice leaders, corporate-finance Partners, and Practice Heads of Transformation only — not every Consulting role on the platform, and not every Finance role regardless of industry. You get the intersection.
Tier filtering works on top. If you want only CXO-tier (Partner) and above seats — filtering out Senior Director engagement-leader roles — the seniority-tier setting does that cleanly. Or restrict to Director-tier for the partner-track feeder layer. Each filter layer multiplies precision without requiring you to manually scan for noise.
