What this category covers

The Industrial & Manufacturing industry covers the broad industrial economy: discrete manufacturers (machinery, electronics, vehicles, durable goods), process manufacturers (chemicals, food, pulp and paper), industrial equipment OEMs, factory automation suppliers, and large supply-chain leaders.

Industrial is heavily onsite. Executive remote policy in this industry skews ~65% onsite, 25% hybrid, 10% remote. Plant General Managers, VP Manufacturing, and CSCO seats are anchored to specific manufacturing footprints. The classifier surfaces remote-friendly corporate seats (often CFO, CTO, CHRO) explicitly so candidates can filter accurately.

Functions over-represented in Industrial & Manufacturing: COO/Operations (multi-plant ownership), Supply Chain (CSCO, VP Procurement, Director Supply Chain), and CTO/Engineering (industrial engineering, automation, IIoT). Director-tier in this industry frequently runs a single plant or major sub-function — real exec scope despite the title prefix.

How classification gets to this category

Industrial & Manufacturing industry classification follows the same multi-stage pipeline as every other industry, with industrial-specific signals at the company-tagging stage:

  1. Company industry tagging. The company is identified via NAICS codes (31–33 for manufacturing, 423–424 for industrial wholesalers), product-category signals, and a curated allowlist of OEMs and large industrial holding companies.
  2. Discrete vs. process tagging. The classifier separates discrete manufacturers (machinery, electronics, vehicles) from process manufacturers (chemicals, food, materials) — different exec-team composition and different remote-policy distributions. Sub-tags surface as filter facets.
  3. JD signals for boundary cases. GPT reads the job description for industrial-specific signals (plant references, lean/six-sigma vocabulary, BOM and SKU-count language, ERP system references like SAP or Oracle Manufacturing) when the company allowlist is ambiguous. Editorial review catches diversified industrials with non-manufacturing divisions. See the AI Classification page for the full signal hierarchy.

The classifier explicitly excludes from Industrial & Manufacturing: pure consumer-goods brands without owned manufacturing (these are Consumer Goods), industrial-software-only companies (Technology), and aerospace primes classified separately under Aerospace.

How matching works for your search

Matching on Industrial & Manufacturing is conjunctive. Every dimension you add narrows the result set rather than expanding it.

Example: select Industrial + Supply Chain and your inbox shows industrial CSCO, VP Supply Chain, and Director Supply Chain seats only — not every Industrial role regardless of function, and not every Supply Chain role across the platform. You get the intersection.

Tier filtering works on top. If you want only Director-tier and above Industrial roles — capturing single-plant Plant GMs and Director Engineering seats — the seniority-tier setting does that cleanly. Or restrict to CXO-tier only for pure C-suite Industrial seats. Each filter layer multiplies precision without requiring you to manually scan for noise.
